Meeting - November 18, 2010

Jason Collier of Collier, Webb, Bowden & Associates, a
talked to the group today about Roth IRAs and the benefits that exist for converting a regular IRA to a Roth before the end of the year. Jason was careful to note that the conversion is not for everyone but the calculations and projection should be done to determine if there are substantial long-term savings.

When converting an IRA to a Roth IRA tax must be paid on the pre-tax assets but allow the future withdrawals to be tax free, when certain requirements are met.

If you have a IRA it may be very worth your time to sit down with Jason and  discuss whether a conversion is appropriate in your circumstance. Call today 801-748-1733, it must be done by the end of December.

Meeting - November 11, 2010

The presenter for the meeting was Harold Bowman of Platt insurance Agency talked to the group about his specialty: Property and Casualty Insurance. Many members have told of how he has either saved them money or told them to stay where they were at. Members enjoy the fact that he is a straight shooter, looking out for the good of the prospective client and client rather than the good of his own wallet.

Harold seems to be very connected, visit his office to see his head set on one ear and a cell ear piece in the other. He is ever prepared to answer the call and find a solution to someone's insurance problem.

Harold is an Independent Insurance Agent is not tied to just one carrier. He can look after your best interests and keep the insurance companies honest. He can match your needs to the company with the best plan for you instead of a one size fits all approach.

He has been around long enough to know what will work here and what will not. He offer competitive prices with unbeatable service and that's a promise that you can rely on. call Harold today 801 417-5088

Meeting - November 4, 2010

Zack Bryant from Sawyer Glass (801-262-5055) was our featured member today. Zach showed and talked about some of the jobs they have done for customers. The frameless showers are very unique and add a significant classy touch to a bathroom. Some of the glass installations have huge dimensions requiring significant equipment. Although much of the slide show were 100% custom jobs, there were also several slides that demonstrated that they do the "normal" as well.

Sawyer Glass Company would like to design a unique Shower door, Custom Tub Enclosure, Frameless Shower Door or create a Distinctive Mirror application for your specific needs.

 Often when we think of Sawyer Glass we forget that they do great custom mirrors for bathrooms, bedrooms, and entry ways. If you have a wall in your home that really needs a mirror, but you haven't been able to find the "right one" at the big box stores, give Sawyer a call.

Sawyer does glass replacements as well. If you have a window or door that is cracked or a double pane window that has moisture between the panes, Sawyer can correct the problem.
One of Sawyers specialties is through the glass pet doors. No more putting a poor fitting piece between the door and the frame side that allows air to free flow, hurting the efficiency of your air conditioner in the summer and your heater in winter. Now your pets pass right through the glass.

Sawyer's motto is:
"Each job we do for our customer is as individual as the person having the job done."

Meeting - October 28, 2010

Ourr designated ten minute presenter was called to jury duty. The leadership team, being quick on their feet, had all the members put a business card in the basket and choose two members to give a six minute presentation about their business.

Elias Caress went first, telling us about hypnotherapy and some of the common reasons someone will engage a hypnotherapist to assist them in a roadblock in their life. He has had success in helping patients with fears, phobias, smoking, and weight loss, to mention a few. He does both individual and group sessions. He stressed that he is not a psychotherapist, and so there are limitations to what he can do.

Elias is also an entertainer, performing at trade shows, corporate events, and non profit events. He demonstrated his ability to create a return on investment by folding up a one dollar bill and when he unfolded it it was a hundred dollar bill. Even our financial planner, Travis Bowden, admitted that  if we wanted a return on investment like that ($1 to $100) in less than 30 seconds, we would have to go to Elias.

Maria Allan was the second presenter. Maria enjoys helping people relax and reduce the pain in their lives causes by tight muscles. We could feel and passion that Maria has for what she does and her caring demeanor. Moon Tide Massage was started by Maria about three years ago, after having a career as a bookkeeper and office manage. Why? Because Maria really loves helping people.

October 21, 2010 - Meeting

Scott Pryor - Handyman Services was our presenter today. Scott is an amazing handyman, capable of fixing, repairing, building pretty much everything.

His presentation took us from the front door into the house mentioning all the little things that tend to break or wear out. they are those little things that are never big enough to do (taking more time to get ready to do them than actually doing them), so we don't. However, these items also seem to be a point of contention in the household.

From personal experience I know that he can fix a rain gutter when it gets torn off by a travel trailer getting a little to close to the house. I called, he came by and gave me a very low estimate, I told him it was to low, but go ahead. When the final bill was presented it was lower than the estimate.

He has also fixed faucet washers in a rental property. Again, a call, he was out and the problems were fixed, the bill being about half of what I would have done it for. He knows his stuff, has the correct tools, and above all he is honest and trustworthy. many chapter members comment how their spouse feels comfortable with Scott.

If you have a Honey Do List that hangs over your head or if you are the creator of the Honey Do List and you want to get them done, call Scott. 801 835-4720

October 14, 2010 - Meeting

The leadership team (Craig Smith, Julie Williams and Harold Bowman) took the ten minute presentation to remind us of the purpose of BNI, some of the unique attributes that distinguish BNI from other networking organizations and rules pertaining to absence and substitutes.

RULE CHANGE - Substitues

  • People to consider for substitutes include: your customers, clients, patients, friends,
    family and/or employees. (The term "former members" has been deleted -- BNI has had problems with this.)
  • The primary purpose for a substitute is to represent a BNI member. BNI recommends
    minimal use of a substitute. However, a member may use substitutes up to three
    times in a six-month period.
  • The chapter should be aware that a substitute will be attending the meeting. The
    Visitor Host should be there to greet the substitute and welcome him/her to the
    meeting.
RULE CHANGE - Membership in a Second Chapter

An individual member cannot be in a second BNI chapter nor in any other group that allows only one person per profession and whose primary purpose is to pass referrals to one another, because it substantially reduces their commitment to the chapter members.

Membership Committees must enforce this policy. This policy change combines General Policy #4 and General Policy #16. This change is effective August 1, 2010.

-------------------------
Mark "Charlie" Fuller and Jim Hawks each had two visitirs, they must be drinking that ICEROK water.
------------------------
We welcome Ron from Mower Medic, Melissa from Surefire Pizza and Jared from Brownie's Lock three fine additions to our group. Make sure to get them on your one to one dance card ASAP, begin the process of Know, Like and Trust. One to One Organizers can be found at www.utahbni.com and more specifically on the download page.

Remember you are always standing the the middle of a referral.

Survice, Reviv & Thrive - Holladay Chamber of Commerce event - 10/14/2020

Two of our own BNI member are featured speakers, Michael Neklason, Sandler Sales Training of Utah and David Thompson, Executive Advisory Services.

Michael Neklason will be presenting "Break the Rules and Close More Sales". Sandler Sales training is a fresh approach to sales, that throws out the gimmicks and focuses on the needs of the prospective customer, really understanding and determining if there is a product of service in your offering that will provide what is needed.

David Thompson will be presenting "Marketing in Tough Times". Working with small to large businesses helping them overcome the obstacles that have them "stuck", may times the business has the ideas, tools and resources and still fail to pull the trigger on actions that would get them unstuck.

October 10th - Meeting

Maria Allan from Moon Tide Massage was the featured member talking to us about the benefits of massage. Massage can help you feel healthier and reduce stress. Who doesn't need that? Around the world, scientists are documenting the numerous physical, psychological and spiritual benefits of massage therapy. The results have been so positive that health practitioners are now calling touch therapy "Vitamin T."

Maria offers several different type of massage, a few are:
Swedish Massage - Swedish massage was the first of the European-type massage modalities to be developed. It is very relaxing and soothing to tired muscles and jangled nerves. The movement of lymph and blood through the system helps your body rid itself of toxins to maintain your health and well-being

Russian Massage - This is a technique developed in Russia during the 1930s was Specifically Designed for athletes. Its unique combination of strokes is designed to help the athlete avoid injuries in the first place, and recover more quickly if they are injured.

Sports Massage - Many sports and fitness enthusiasts rely on regular massage as an important part of their health maintenance routine. This is because an area of chronic tension can impair performance and even lead to injury when stressed. Assisted stretching, kneading and other massage techniques can loosen areas of chronic tension and help relieve new areas of tension before they become chronic.

Remember that Maria can bring her massage chair to your office, your home, a senior care facility, or you can get your massage in her office. Call today, for yourself or for a loved one. 801-467-3812

August 5, 2010 - Meeting

Thal Dixon of Dixon Security Cameras was or presenter today, allowing us to learn more about the products and services that he provides. During his introduction it was revealed to the group that he passion is writing books an poetry for children and that some day that is how he would like sustain his habits (food, clothing and shelter for his family).

Thal explained that video cameras can be obvious or covert. The covert cameras are small enough to be hidden in a pen, watch or key bob, or disgusied as a teddy bear,, smoke detector, clock, just about anywhere you desire.

The video above was taken while talking with Jeff Park from Pond's Plumbing and Heating of Utah as he explained their own efficient heating and cooling system.

Thal showed us how buildings (homes & offices) can be monitored from wherever you are at by applications on smart phones. Cameras as useful for businesses and residences alike. If you are a mother constantly running to the backyard or downstairs to see if your children are alright, a couple of cameras strategically placed can allow you to focus on other activities.

Dr Matthew Roller - Goldmine BNI Memeber - Speaks to Sandy Chamber of Commerce

Dr. Matthew Roller from Up Zen Health spoke at the Sandy Chamber of Commerce Connect Lunch held at Mi Ranchito Grill on Thursday, July 29, 2010. Dr. Roller talked about the different treatment options that were available at UP Zen Health and some of the treatment success they have had with scoliosis, rehabilitation from auto accidents, as well as making every effort to treat the underlying cause of pain and illness rather than the symptoms.

The mission of Up Zen Health is to help people of all ages to attain and maintain health, and to help their bodies grow and function correctly without pain or discomfort so as to prevent illness, disease and a reliance or dependency on drugs or medications so that they live a more active, longer, and happier life.

Julie Williams, a patient, has suffered with the pain of scoliosis for her whole life, she talked about the improvement Dr. Roller has made in life, she said that the pain has not totally disappeared but she can work in the garden, work as a professional photographer and play with her children without having to spend three days in bed recovering.

July 29, 2010 - Meeting

Mike Gifford and Adam Luker from Integral IT Services (801) 486-2580 were our featured members this morning. Mike is known for his love of Apple products and Adam for his understanding of the rest of the computer world. Many of us have had experiences using Mike or Adam to solve issues with our personal computers or company networks, they have become our outsourced IT staff. As that outsourced IT staff they are able and willing to do as much or as little as one desires, and are one of the few groups that will teach computer owners how to do some or all of the maintenance on your systems.

They have a cool little tool that sits on your desktop that you can click on when you need assistance. After the click you will see them sharing control of your system and walk you through whatever needs to be done. They will also come to your home or business or you can drop off a system if you really have a mess.

Coming from one with a graduate degree in computer science, it is much easier and cost effective to have these guys deal with making the machines (and networks) work correctly and fast. Be sure to give them a call if you are tired of dealing with computer problems.

Business to Business Supports Pyxis Suites and Learns about Determination

The Business to Business Power Team held their meeting in conjunction with an open house that Pyxis Suites was hosting. The featured speaker was Bill Schuffenhauer, a member of the 2002 US Olympic Blodsled Team tht won a Silver Medal.

Bill told his story of raising himself out of extremely poor and challenging life by surrounding himself with good friends and mentors and having an inner determination to succeed, writing his name in the history books. His story is inspirational, providing hope and encouragement to those who feel the cards of life are stacked against them. Listening to him tell his story there was every reason in the world to blame others for what appeared to be a wasted life, having never been given the basic tools of success. He decided that he was going to accomplish something despite the challenges and lack of opportunity.

Standing at an impressive 6’ at 220 lbs. and with an uncanny desire to win, Bill personified the power it took to become a bobsledder. He joined the National Team in 2000 and realized his dream when he won the silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

From his own website: "He grew up in the foster care system during his parents’ struggle with drugs and alcohol. Not wanting to face his parents’ environment, Bill used athletics, including break dancing, to avoid drugs and violence. Bill became inspired to become an Olympian when his high school coaches introduced him to track & field. “When my coaches told me about how the Olympics were the highest achievement for an athlete it became my dream. So I decided to never give it up or let anything get in my way, including my past,” said Bill."

 We thank Kathryn Christiansen of Pyxis Suites for the invitation and the opportunity to listen to Bill.

If you haven't seen Pyxis Suites you should make an appointment with Kathryn (801 214-9702 ) today to see the facilities available to businesses that desire the feel of big business at the prices small businesses can aford.

Pyxis executive suites offer 24 hour access with no after hour charges, private storage units on-site, and reserved secure garage parking with direct elevator access to our 1st floor space.
By leveraging support systems into a comprehensive corporate network, Pyxis elevates service and efficiency allowing executives more time to focus on innovation and relationships.

July 22, 2010 - Meeting Notes

Jennifer Rice of Epic Window Cleaning Services, Inc. was our presenter today. We learned that Jenn has done a lot in her life, from retail sales to a driver of a race car. She has a great attitude and lots of energy.

The chapter learned that there are definite advantages to using a qualified professional (not high school kids) window cleaning service. They do both residential and commercial window cleaning. They have chosen to work with windows of less than 26 feet in height. Epic uses only products that are safe to the environment.

One of the issues that Jenn talked about is the hard water in the Salt Lake area, if windows are not cleaned and the hard water spots removed it can permanently damage the glass. She and her team of professionals spend the time and effort required to assure that the hard water stains are removed (if the damage has not already happened.)

Jenn's ideal client is someone who likes to look out into the world through clear, clean glass. She loves to work with those where age has made it virtually impossible for them to clean their own windows. Epic has several plans that can reduce and spread the cost of window cleaning over several months.

July 15, 2010 - Meeting Notes

Travis Bowden from Collier, Webb, Bowden & Associates, a financial advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc was our featured member. Travis has been a member of the Goldmine Chapter for more than four years. His real passions, besides financial planning, are his family and bicycling (one of those that warms up with a little 30 mile ride.)

Travis has a very low key, no pressure approach with is congruent with his personality. He explained to the group the types of people that would make good referrals. He is looking for those that can see, touch or smell retirement, those that are 40 plus that realize that failure to plan will result in long-term failure, those that have left big companies with a 401k that they would like to roll into a personal retirement account and those business owners that want to plan for their future.

Travis also provided the group with a very good workbook that can (if used) allow families to sit and discuss their financial goals and dreams.

Travis is sponsoring the fourth annual Cooper Bowden Memorial Golf Tournament, September 18, 2010 - registration 7am, start 7:30 am - Lunch & Awards at Noon. Call his office to sign-up 801-748-1733.

July 1, 2010 - Meeting Notes

Frank and Kris Rudarmel from Anchor Restoration helped us understand a little more about their business. They focus their efforts on flood damage and carpet cleaning.

"When we receive your Water Damage call "Your Emergency Is Our Emergency" we answer our phones live 24/7/365. We typically arrive within 1 hour. We regularly attend educational courses and certification classes for our industry. We are certified by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration known as the IICRC. We arrive to the job on time, uniformed and well groomed. We have been in business for 9 years. We offer Residences and Businesses the highest quality of service, including honest and fair pricing."

Frank showed us a meter that he uses to test the moisture content of carpets and walls. It is imperative that the moisture level be reduced below a certain point so that threat of mold and mildew is eliminated.

"Our job is very rewarding in the fact that we are privileged to help our clients from devastation to restoration. We are also compassionate about what we do. Our clients are in desperate need of our help and services and we have confidence that we can provide them with reliability and consistency in our quality of work and response time. We will provide you with honesty, efficiency and peace of mind."

When your friends and neighbors are talking about the water that is in the basement from the irrigation system, the water on the floor due to a bad hose from the clothes washer or refrigerator or they want to clean their carpets before of after a big family gathering, think of Anchor Restoration.

June 24, 2010 - Meeting Notes

Our features member this week was Steve Duke from At Home Realty whose memory hook is "Friends don't let friends rent."  Steve was open and honest telling us that when people are asking about the real estate market he realizes that they are asking about their neighborhoods real estate market or the neighborhood that they wish to move to.

Steve gave us the top 15 reasons why people sell and move:

    * 1) Home is too small.
    * 2) Upgrade.
    * 3) Fix purchase error.
    * 4) Job transfer.
    * 5) Personal Relationships.
    * 6) Neighborhood changes.
    * 7) Empty nest.
    * 8) See family more often.
    * 9) See family less often.
    * 10) Retirement.
    * 11) Health problems.
    * 12) Deferred maintenance.
    * 13) Home improvement perfection.
    * 14) Cash in equity.
    * 15) Lifestyle change.

These are the attention points that our members should be listening for when talking to the people they know. When you hear comments like those above think of Steve and ask that friend if you can have Steve contact them.

June 17, 2010 - Meeting Notes

Ron Mecham (ronald.mecham@trulymail.net) from Truly Nolan Pest Control (801 466-3400) was our featured member this week. It is a little creepy to talk about bugs and rodent problem but Ron does it with great gusto and enthusiasm. He explained about their four season approach to pest control. Ron's tag line is "If you don't want to live a bug's life, call Truly Nolen".

Summer - Increased insect populations eat voraciously during the summer. Why do we see more of them in the summer? Because insects can move faster during the summer, they are less afraid of predators and more likely to be seen. It's the right time to treat the landscape and harborage areas where insects live. Truly Nolen meets "speed with speed" by using fast-acting products during the summer.

One of the biggest concerns was the safety of the products that they use since two small children died earlier this spring when a pest control operator from another company misapplied a chemical. Ron assured the group that Truly Nolen doesn't even use the chemical in question, in fact, their first concern is for the safety of the client.

Several of us in the group have used Truly Nolen and find them to be knowledgeable and professional, explaining what they are going to do and then doing it. They also make follow up visits if you are not 100% satisfied.

June 10, 2010 - Meeting

Mark (Charlie) Fuller from C and M Doors, Inc. (801 654-3950) or (candmdoor@yahoo.com) was the featured business of the week.  Mark brought several sample of the types of things that they offer to perspective clients from simple interior doors, classic exterior doors (customer carved) to garage doors. He also talked about the door hardware (locks, handle sets, and hinges) , bathroom hardware (towel bars, soap holders, and tp holders) and modular closet organizers.

Think of Mark when you hear:
   1. People who are talking about finishing their basement (doors, bathroom hardware and molding,
   2, People who are talking about changing their front door.
   3. People who have a drafty house (air coming in around the door seal).
   4. People who are remodeling their house or are updating cabinet hardware.
   5. Property managers

June 3, 2010 - Meeting

Louise High from RBS WorldPay (merchant services or credit card processing)  was our featured member this week. Louise explained to the group that her philosophy is to help perspective client truly understand what the real cost for processing a credit card is - full disclosure. She also sent some time painting a good picture of some of the reasons that most merchants have a disdain for credit card processors and some of the scams that are being run in the business community. As a "direct processor" RBS WorldPay has fewer parties in the transaction and thus is very competitive in rates and Luise will not encourage a potential client to switch if it is not a win for the prospective client. Louise can be reached at  801 623-8838 or by email at: l.high@comcast.net.

May 27, 2010 - Meeting

Michele Sauk from US Bank, SBA Lending (michele.sauk@usbank.com  or 801 284-5900) was our featured speaker today. It was quite a treat since also brought coffee, yogurt and breakfast breads beside the give-away at the end of the meeting (a gift certificate to Polished Image Auto Detailing).

Michele explained to us that the best types of potential referrals for her presently are professionals who have been renting their office space for 3 to 5 years and are about to have to renew or go find a building to buy. Dentists, lawyers, CPA, MD, Chiropractors, Optometrists and other professionals generally fit the SBA model very well.

Rates are still low making the cost of owning comparable with renting, if not lower. Don't try to explain SBA lending to the the potential referral, just have them call and talk with Michele.

Michele is the past President of Goldmine Chapter and is currently serving as the Education coordinator, providing weekly networking education to the members of the chapter. She also is a regular at the Financial Power Team, acting as the chair (not what she wants, but she puts up with the rest of the Financial Power team member).

Thal Dixon of Dixon Security Cameras won the award for the best 30 second commercial today with a poem that described what he does and who needs his services.

May 20, 2010 - Meeting

David DeVroom from Pivotal Construction ( 801 860-8598 and daviddevroom@gmail.com) explained more about what he does, what kinds of projects and jobs are a good fit and what to listen for when talking to friends and acquaintances that might lead to a referral for him.

David started by telling us why the name of his business represents who he is and what he does so well. Pivotal means vitally important, he believes that is vitally important that the contractor that does a job for you understand what it is you want, what kind of a budget is expected, what the risks are, that the client be informed about what process is, where the project is at during the construction and that the process be legal from start to finish.

David listed the wide variety of projects he has completed from  very simple remodels to multi-million dollar new home construction. By being a very hands on (involved) contractor he saves clients money by not having a high overhead, involving subcontractor for much of what he does as the general contractor.

So, if you are involved in a discussion where the construction of a fence, porch, remodel, or new house involved be sure to thing of David and Pivotal Construction.

May 13, 2010 - Meeting

Jennifer (Jenn) Richardson from Abra Auto and Glass (she is the Glass) was our presenter today. Jenn talked about the reason that auto glass is important and what to ask when you are in need of a replacement windshield (or other glass) for your vehicle.

Jenn stressed that the number one issue is safety. The windshield help to keep things from hitting you, as well as, in the event of an accident it helps you stay in the car. Jenn feels that since the auto glass business is not regulated by governmental agencies there is always the possibility of being taken advantage of.

On a different note, Abra had a killer Cinco de Mayo celebration at their West Vally store. The food, prizes and tours were top notch, a great introduction to Abra. Hope they repeat it next year.

May 6, 2010 - Meeting

Dr Craig Smith was our presenter today. He talked about some of the procedures and reconstruction that he performs on his patients. It was amazing to see the difference in the before and after pictures, a little straightening, correcting and whitening goes along way.

Some of the treatments he showed to us were: porcelain veneers; crowns and onlays; bridges;  implants; and teeth whitening. With the limited time of ten minutes he did a good job of explaining to us " non dentists" what kinds of things he does and how it changes the lives of his patients.

A list of the insurances he accepts are at: Insurance Plans

During May in honor of Mother's Day, Highland Heights Dental will donate a smile makeover to a survivor of breast cancer.  This includes veneers and/or crowns in order to restore the smile of one who has suffer from the disease.

Dr Craig Smith started this program three years ago with his mother-in-law, Kris L. who is a survivor of breast cancer for 14 years.  In 2007, he reconstructed her upper smile and continued with the lower the following year.  She has since contracted stage 4 metastatic cancer and is currently stable though things are uncertain.

Since the makeover, she enjoys smiling and is happy with the change.  For this reason, it was decided to extend this offer to others. Another reason is to raise awareness. The medication that has kept his mother-in-law healthier was discovered by research funded by the Susan B Komen Foundation. If funding helped discover that remarkable medication, someday a cure might be found before the 50 percent probability of affecting his wife and daughter.

Thank you to those who nominated a survivor or included themselves.  Congratulations to Ginny for winning the makeover in 2009.  We plan on continuing our tradition of a complimentary smile makeover to a survivor of breast cancer in the Salt Lake Valley and surrounding counties.

The nomination process for 2010 has started.  Please make your nominations before May 31, 2010.   Visit the www.survivorbrightsmiles.com for addition information.  You can see our survivor's change at our facebook page or in the survivor gallery.

April 29, 2010 - Meeting

Two new members were inducted into the chapter, Lance McBride of Molly Maid (residential cleaning) and Justin Peterson of  Laub Insurance (commercial insurance category). We have been searching for the residential cleaning position for quiet some time, a couple of members have already used his services and praised the quality and speed of their two-person teams.

Austin Binks of Ice Rok / Park City Ice Water was our featured member this week. He began his presentation asking what kinds of chemicals or agents are in the water that we drink (from the tap or from bottles water - that is generally bottled tap water). When someone named one he would throw a pouch of Ice Rok water their way.

IceRok’s unequivocal water source has many advantages over all other bottled waters on the market today. First of all, the time encapsulated period in which IceRok’s melted glacier water has been preserved, protected and unexposed to the toxins of mankind spans nearly 20,000 years as verified by C14 testing [Geochron Laboratories 3-22-1999]. Because of this isolation over such a long period of time, this recently discovered water treasure if free from nuclear testing tritium contamination [University of Miami Rosenstiel 11-18-1998] , chemicals, pharmaceuticals, hormones, acid rain, and all the other contaminants that have polluted the earth’s drinking and ground water.

In addition to “what’s not in IceRok’s water source”, there are also many special aspects of the molecular composition of IceRok water. As verified by the University of Illinois [12-17-2008] through a cyclic voltammagram test, IceRok water has a very high level of electrolytes which is very unique, special and advantageous for drinking water. In addition, the laboratory at Columbia Phytotechnology [1-24-2009] (an authorized FDA laboratory authorized to certify antioxidants) has tested and certified IceRok water as natural antioxidant water.

1. 20,000 Year Old Isolated Subterranean Artesian Glacier Water
2. 100% Created By Nature Over Time, Nothing Added
3. No Toxins, Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals, Hormones, Or Industrial Pollutants
4. Naturally Antioxidant & Electrolyte Rich
5. Natural 7.9 pH - Healthy Alkaline Water For The Body
6. Zero BPA Or DEHA In Our GlacierPak™ Soft Bottle
7. Freezable GlacierPak™ Soft Bottle & Not Sensitive To Heat – No Toxic Leaching & Extended Shelf Life
8. Environmentally Friendly Because Of The Collapsible Package – The Solution To The PET Land Fill Catastrophe
9. Up To 50% Less Material In The GlacierPak™ Soft Bottle Than An Equivalent PET Bottle &  Less Energy To Produce
10. Great Smooth Taste From The Perfectly Balanced Mineral Content

The extremely rare and positive aspects noted above coupled with a perfect mineral balance and a high pH of 7.9 (alkaline water) makes this the most important water discoveries of our time. To complete the positive attributes, this natural subterranean artesian melted glacier aquifer exceeds 40 trillion gallons and IceRok’s exclusive well capacity at the present time produces 530 gallons per minute.

April 22, 2010 - Meeting

Julie Williams from Impressions Studio and Gallery was our features presenter today. She deviated from the "standard" BNI presentation to tell us about another passion that she has -  Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. The organizations mission is to introduce remembrance photography to parents suffering the loss of a baby with the free gift of professional portraiture. The services are available for infant loss as early as 25 weeks gestation, or at the discretion of medical personnel.

She donates her time, talent, and resources to families requesting her services, she is not compensated for her time or services. It takes a unique talent and compassion to volunteer for an event that tugs at heart strings.

Julie projected a sample slide show together with music of what she had prepared for a family. It was very moving, all who watched saw a beautiful memory of an infant who's life was short upon this earth.

Mike Gifford from Integral IT Services stand to give his 60 Second Commercial (30 seconds due to the number of members and visitors in attendance). Mike handles the MAC side of the business and Adam Luker (the PC side of the business) always receive outstanding  testimonials from the businesses and individuals for whom they perform services.

April 15, 2010 - Weekly Meeting

To no one's surprise Ken Klingler from Klingler & Associates was in the meeting this morning. Here is a professional who is so organized that he can attend a networking event on the busiest day of the year. Why? If you ask him he will tell you about the importance of doing the right things, even when it is not convenient, and that it is all about the money. He knows that to keep the prospect funnel full his marketing efforts can't be hit and miss, they have to be consistent, part of a plan.

Lyle Afflect from Aflac Insurance he spoke to us about the cancer policy that Aflac has for individuals and how that policy pays the beneficiary not the doctors or hospitals. Aflac policies are designed t help families keep a roof over their hears, the utilities on and the creditors paid, "It's insurance for Daily Living." A lump sum cancer insurance policy provides you with a pre-established amount if you or another covered person is diagnosed with cancer. You can use the money to help pay the expenses that you'll have at the time, from medical costs to everyday bills.

Aflac's executive management is a strong ally in the achievement of the Aflac Cancer Center's long-term strategic vision under the leadership of Dr. William Woods, recipient of the Daniel P. Amos Chair endowed by Aflac in 2000.  In addition, Aflac funded the outpatient and inpatient clinics at both Scottish Rite and Egleston. Aflac also gave support in the construction of the Aflac Cancer Center research facility.

April 8, 2010 - Meeting

Leta Greene at Glamour Connection (her blog) talked to the chapter about three key aspects of of the impression each and every one of us makes when meeting others. First, make-up, it should not be seen but serve to enhance the natural beauty. Make-up also serves to cover-up the hardships of life. Leta explained that an accident left her with many scars on her face (you can't see a one). Second, wardrobe, it should look good, fit correctly and does not have to cost a fortune. She demonstrated how a coat, sweater and some "bling" (necklaces), changed the overall appearance of the basic pants and top she was wearing. Third, attitude, don't believe what people tell you, project the image of who you really are, your real character. I have to admit that from a male perspective I thought I was going to be board, not so, she has a great ability to capture and hold the focus of all in the room, a great public speaker.

 Julie Williams of Impressions Studio & Gallery (Website) shocked the whole chapter when she stood on her chair and did the chicken dance as part of her 30 second commercial. Sorry, there is no video, nobody was expecting this. Julie's joke was in reaction to Elias Caress' presentation on April 1 where he explained about hypnotherapy and how it can be used to help people overcome obstacles in their lives. Julie had asked Elias if he was going put us all into a trance and have us do the chicken dance.For all those who think that the Goldmine chapter is a stuffy chapter that doesn't like to have fun, they should visit and experience Goldmine.

We inducted two member: Bush Builder HVAC (Website) and Far West Roofing. We welcome them to the group and look forward to helping them grow their businesses.

March 25, 2010

Our 10 minute presentation today was by Mike Ross from Meridian Title. Mike talked to us about the some of the issues that home / land owners run into where title insurance provides protection (prior owner encumbrances, right or way, easements, poorly executed notary, etc.). Mike also taught us that Meridian Title can save developers as much as 50% on title insurance due to their relationships with a variety of underwriters. Mike secret to success is to work hard and play harder. Several members provided testimonies of the ease of the closing process that Meridian Title provides with their mobile closing, as well as, the professionalism that Mike has, taking the time to explain the who, what and why in the tile insurance process.

Tax season finds Ken Klingler of Klingler & Associates (the CPA) talking with Greg Zaugg of Callister Nebecker & McCullough (the business attorney). Most CPAs don't take the time to network during tax season, they have the philosophy of "Why go after more business now, I'll wait until after tax season." You won't find Ken with that attitude, he understand that it is more about farming, developing sources for referrals over a period of time, thus it is not feast and famine. Having a CPA and a business attorney in the chapter provides for all sorts of synergistic energy.

We inducted three new members this week, Jenn Rice from Epic Window Cleaning, Amy Talbot from Send Out cards and Kelly Dailey from Summit Fitness Equipment.

Here we have Linda Garner from A Healing Place (she was a visitor), Shellene Tucholski of Salon Rain and Jennifer Rice of Epic Window Cleaning Services networking after the meeting. Linda Garner announces a walk-a-thon on Saturday, April 17 to raise funds for the organization which helps prevent child abuse. Shellene invited Jenn to visit the chapter a few weeks ago and evidently Jenn saw the value in having more than 50 people out on the street listening for opportunities to referral members of the chapter.

Elias Caress (Hypnotherapy) welcomes Amy Tabot (Send Out Cards) to the chapter. Amy attended a visitor day for BNI chapters in the Salt Lake area, decided to visit a couple of them and liked what she saw and felt at the Goldmine Chapter. The value proposition is clear upon visiting and seeing the numbers that the chapter generates week after week.

Goldmine Chapter Meeting News 3/18/2010

One of the highlights of the Goldmine Chapter meeting is the educational portion. Her Michele Sauk (US Bank - Commercial Banking Services - SBA lender) explains and teaches networking principles that we can use in our daily activities. Michele is a great example to the group, she is always willing and ready to be part of the "Power of Two" to influence a third. Michele is the past President of the Goldmine Chapter continuing to provide leadership and mentoring to the group.

Ken Klingler (Klingler & Associates, Inc. - the CPA in the group) delivers his 30 second commercial. What CPA do you know who takes 1 1/2 hours weekly out of his busy tax season to network? Our answer is the CPA who knows how to, how to stay at the top of the mind of those people who know, like and trust him. Ken is one of the founding members and is active in the Financial Power team and the Membership Committee, proving that "Giver's Gain" is indeed a true principle. Ken's thank you slips during go on and on (third, fourth, fifth and sixth generation referrals) all linking back to BNI connections.

Jim Hawks (Hawkart Design Services) was our presenter. No pictures, the camera person was to interested in the presentation and forgot to click. Jim told and showed the group what he does for businesses in helping them to build brand and make them memorable.

Before and after the meeting is when business really gets done. There we have Julie Williams (Impressions Studio & Gallery), Leta greene (Glamour Connection) and Elias Caress (Hypnotherapy) talking and setting appointments for 1 on 1's (the meetings where we really get to know the other members of the chapter).

Number submitted for the week ending 3/11 were:

Referrals passed: 107
Thank You Notes: $ 16,541
YTD Referrals: 740
YTD Thank You Notes: $207,672
